Thoughts

When Harry met Linda (Mum) (Yes, not quite like the film when Harry met Sally)! 😊 So where to begin……. Mum moved down to Portsmouth in the late 1980`s where she trained as a Renal Nurse at St Marys Hospital. Along with managing to keep a roof over our heads, bringing us up and generally doing what she could to support and look after us. So, I remember Mum dating this guy way, way back and although Mum said he was called Harry his name was actually John, but everyone called him Harry. (Didn’t really get that at the time)! Anyway, Mum went on a few dates with Harry; he cooked for her, they went on romantic days out, holidays, the usual things people do when they meet someone. Well, Mum (and I’m sure she won’t mind me saying this), turned into a teenager overnight. She was so happy, giggly and bounding around like loves young dream. (Sorry Mum but you know it’s true and it was so fabulous to see). Things became more and more serious to the point of Harry proposing to Mum. They were then married on December 16th,1995 and following a few hiccups of snow, planes, and decorating cars, we managed to get Mum along to the Church on time! Mum and Harry looked so lovely and took their vows and became Mr and Mrs Harrison. A fabulous day together celebrating with family and friends. There have been many hilarious moments and memories of family times spent together, with many laughs along the way. However, one of my fondest and most memorable times together, is back when I took them away on a trip with me to San Francisco. This was way back in the days of when I use to fly as a Stewardess. One memorable moment from that trip was when we took a boat trip to Alcatraz Prison. Mum was in charge with the camera, taking lots of photos many with myself and Harry behind bars. (you can imagine the scene). Well after a good hour or so of mooching around Alcatraz, with Mum taking tons of photos of myself and Harry. Mum pipes up. `Oh…..you’re not gonna believe this, but I don’t think the films wound on`(this, kids was back in the days of when we used to have proper cameras). Harry and I looked at each other with disbelief when mum then says, `We`re going to have to go round again! ` It honestly was one of the funniest things, the 3 of us running round, as quickly as we could, laughing, while re-enacting all the previous poses of pretending to be behind bars all over again and all for the sake of the photo album. A fabulous day and trip and one that I will never forget. Harry had a great sense of humour (even though he often looked like Grumpy from Snow White and the 7 Dwarves). He was always generous in so many ways. We have so many memories of wonderful weekends, holidays together, laughing and messing at various family gatherings, and of course Mums infamous Roast Dinner. Which would always end with a glass of Port and a tale to tell. I am so thankful and happy that Harry came into Mum`s life and that they had so many amazing and wonderful adventures. Doing and seeing incredible things together. They loved each other, and while doing that, they loved and took care of us lot too. Always there when we needed them no matter what. Mum in the last few years has been so incredibly strong, loving, and devoted whilst caring for Harry. Fighting his corner when he no longer could. His eyes and smiles for you in his last few weeks and days, really did say it all Mum. Thank you, Harry, you sleep well now.
